“Two Weeks for Better Sleep” Workshop Series

From February 4, 2019 to February 15, 2019

Over 45% of students say they have sleep problems, which are often blamed on stress related to their studies. Because students need a high quality of life to flourish, the Université de Lyon and its member institutions have partnered with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region to hold a two-week program promoting better sleep, from February 4 to 15.

The Université de Lyon is co-organizing and coordinating a health prevention program on this topic in the Lyon and Saint-Étienne area.

The Health Steering Committee, which is composed of health professionals working within each institution, has made the same observation about students’ sleep problems. It wished to create a program on the theme of sleep.

Thus was born the “Two Weeks for Better Sleep” workshop series, which is being funded by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and aims to raise awareness among students of the importance of sleeping well. For nearly two weeks, each student will be given the opportunity to take part in three workshops in their own school, where they will learn ways to manage stress and get ready to sleep.

Workshop series

Workshop 1: Better Sleep with Aromatherapy

Understanding how essential oils help promote sleepiness and improve sleep quality. Learning how to use them and necessary precautions to take.

Advantages: Creating a mixture of relaxing essential oils to use when they are feeling stressed or have trouble sleeping.

Workshop 2: Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation

This technique helps people achieve a calm feeling, by focusing their attention on abdominal breathing, in order to prevent sleep problems.

In this workshop, students will practice the method to gain experience meditating, instead of merely understanding it intellectually.

Workshop 3: Introduction to Sophrology and how it Improves Sleep

Sophrology is an effective method for managing stress and emotions, improving the quality of your sleep, mentally preparing for challenges (such as finals or sporting events), and for improving concentration and memory, etc.

It involves simple practices (breathing awareness, relaxation, positive thinking, etc.) that anyone can practice on their own.
