University library services adapted to the health crisis

On The November 10, 2020

As part of the measures to contain the current epidemic, all Lyon and Saint-Étienne University Libraries (Bibliothèques universitaires – BUs) are once again adapting their services to best meet your needs during this difficult time. The teams are doing their utmost to ensure that these resources remain available to all who need them.

ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY

Some BUs still provide access to their facilities with specific opening hours. However, if you need to work in the library, to borrow or return books or materials, use the library computers or photocopiers, or access other services, you must make a reservation beforehand.
All seats are individual, and group work is no longer allowed.
You will be expected to adhere to the current health guidelines throughout your visit: the BUs offering this service have provided a reminder of the procedures to be followed on their website.

THE TAKE-OUT “CLICK & COLLECT” LIBRARY SERVICE

A number of BUs are once again offering you the option to remotely order documents and collect them during a given time slot.
You can also return your documents by appointment or by using the book return boxes.
Any documents borrowed before the lockdown can be returned at the end of the lockdown with no late fees.
You can also borrow laptops.

ONLINE DOCUMENTS AND SUPPORT

You can still access your institutions’ digital libraries and some of their resources have been made more widely available.

The teams, currently working from home, have continued to provide students and researchers with access to:

  • Online information (such as literature searches, digital resources and practical information)
  • Services for researchers (sharing publications on the HAL portal, thesis services, etc.)

DISTANCE LEARNING

Some BUs have set up a range of video-link documentation workshops (Copyrights, Zotero, publishing on the HAL portal, etc.).

University scientists also have access to free distance learning courses (web-based scientific communication, publishing, as well as processing and accessing research data) provided by the Urfist de Lyon.

Visit your BU's website for more information on the services it provides (see list opposite).
