World Blood Donor Day

On The June 14, 2019

The World Blood Donor Day, held on June 14, is an opportunity to thank blood donors and to highlight the importance of daily mobilization. The Université de Lyon supports this great solidarity event which raises public awareness of the importance of blood donation and promotes the French ethical model.

Introduced in 2004 by the World Health Organization (WHO), World Blood Donor Day will once again be celebrated worldwide on June 14. This event is an opportunity to thank these voluntary donors for their life-saving gesture, and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations. The quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products is integral to universal healthcare coverage and is an essential part of effective healthcare systems.

One month for EVERYONE to donate!

Donors, non-donors, this is “One month for EVERYONE to donate!”. This is the motto adopted by the EFS (French national blood service) as it launches operation #PrenezLeRelais from June 11 to July 13 in honor of World Blood Donor Day.
