The Université Lumière Lyon 2 is among the twelve new winners awarded this label by the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI) during the second wave of the “Science with and for Society” (SAPS - "Science avec et pour la société") call for projects.

The LYSiERES project (LYon Saint-Étienne Research and Experimentation on Science with and for Society) aims to foster new interfaces between science and society, by involving students, PhD students and researchers alongside professionals in the fields of mediation and with scientific, technical and industrial backgrounds.

The LYSiERES project intends to address the following challenges:

  • To create the conditions of cooperation for new interfaces between science and society;
  • To offer innovative programs of scientific mediation and co-building of knowledge, closely associated with local and global territorialized issues, based on leading research on science in society;
  • In three years, to make this label-bearing, multi-actor network, a center of reference and a territory of innovation on the remarkable dialogue between science and society in France according to four axes:
    • Training;
    • Participatory research;
    • Youth;
    • Media.

On March 28, the jury, commissioned by the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, allocated an initial grant of €304,000 to this project for 2022.

The LYSiERES project then, is awarded the label for three years, and will involve a consortium of four structures: the Université Lumière Lyon 2, the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the CCSTI Pop’Sciences of the Université de Lyon academic community (ComUE) and the CCSTI La Rotonde-Mines Saint-Étienne.
