Chemistry Escape Rooms: an alternative way to spread knowledge

Du 07 June 2019 au 08 June 2019

The students of the Analytical Techniques diploma in the Chemistry Department of the IUT Lyon 1 invite the university community to participate in the Chemistry Escape Rooms on June 7 and 8, 2019, at the LyonTech-la Doua campus. As a winner of the 2018 call for expressions of interest in educational Innovation launched by IDEXLYON, this project was set up in collaboration with the Takagi company and the ‘marche au vol’ group, with co-financing from SOLVAY.

The 2018-2019 academic year was labeled the year of chemistry, from school to university by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The aim is to promote French chemistry and educational activities in this field.

The escape rooms are free and open to all. They aim to raise awareness that our bodies and everything around us is made of chemicals (medication, plastics, paint, etc.) and that chemistry is essential for human life and development. This is an innovative educational project, enabling students to work differently, in a playful way, by using collective intelligence and collaborative thinking.

Combining science with play, chemistry and investigations

On June 7 and 8, 2019, three escape rooms will be staffed by students of the Analytical Techniques diploma in the Chemistry Department of the IUT Lyon 1, at the LyonTech-la Doua campus. Groups of five to seven participants will have to solve chemistry-related puzzles, perform chemical experiments, and make use of scientific publications, digital resources and tools, etc. in order to escape from a laboratory as quickly as possible.
