Registration is open for the 2020-2021 Respite Inter-University Diploma

Registration for the 2020-2021 Respite Inter-University Diploma (Diplôme Inter-Universitaire – DIU) opened on February 1, 2020. This diploma was created by the “Fondation France Répit” [the French Respite Foundation], working on behalf of the Foundation for the Université de Lyon. It is led by the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the Université Jean Monnet.


The Respite Inter-University Diploma

The Respite Inter-University Diploma is the first and only French University Diploma program focused on offering respite and support to family members caring for sick, disabled or elderly people.

The eight-month training program includes eight days of theoretical classes, at least four days of a practical internship and a dissertation with an oral presentation. The diploma is validated by a one-day knowledge assessment.

Students enrolled in this training program are eligible to receive funds for continuing vocational training and may be funded by the participant’s training provider or institution.

Courses will take place at the École Rockefeller (69008 Lyon) and at the Fondation France Répit (69160 Tassin-la-Demi-Lune).

Who can apply?

This training program is for:

  • Healthcare professionals
    Doctors, health executives, nurses, assistant nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychomotor therapists, medical interns (following at least two years of internship training), etc.
  • Social workers
    Social workers, carers, medical psychologists, specialized educators who have a State recognized diploma, etc.
  • Heads of institutions, communities or social protection groups
    Managers of healthcare and social welfare institutions, heads of patients’ or carers’ organizations, local authorities, social protection groups, health insurance companies, companies, project leaders, etc.
  • Family caregivers (volunteers, qualified carers)
    Subject to the agreement of the educational committee and as an exception.
