A look back at the launch of the 11th edition of Lyon Start Up

On The September 17, 2020

The 11th edition of Lyon Start Up, a Lyon Saint-Étienne Entrepreneurship Center program led by the Fondation pour l’Université de Lyon, was launched on Thursday, September 17, 2020. It is an opportunity for the team, applicants and partners to get to know each other, as well as to meet this year’s sponsor, Émilie Legoff, founder of Troops.

Lyon Start Up consists of a selection of 100 projects, which are represented by project leaders who wish to reveal their potential by following a comprehensive four-month coaching program to help them create their start-up. They will also participate in a pitching competition where they can win up to 15,000 euros. This edition will include the program’s tenth class, made up of twenty-two project leaders who have had to follow the program online this year due to health measures.

During the launch evening, the sponsor of the 10th and 11th editions, Émilie Legoff, answered students’ questions with passion and gave them plenty of valuable advice on topics such as teamwork, managing setbacks, organization, fundraising, and much more:

Surround yourself with a strong network. While you may have friends who are eager to support you, it is important to establish a network that will enable you to learn and grow. In this sense, the Lyon Start Up program is definitely a step in the right direction.

Émilie emphasized two essential aspects of any entrepreneurial career; self-confidence and entrepreneurial posture:

It is important that you have confidence in yourself and in the project. We all have our critics, or people who try to push us to follow their advice, and, generally speaking, they don't mean any harm by it. This can sometimes be quite discouraging, and you really need to learn to stick to your guns while remaining open to advice from the right people.

This valuable advice, delivered with strong communicative energy, was carefully considered by the project leaders, and strengthened their decision to embark on their own Lyon Start Up adventure.

At the end of the welcome speeches, the project leaders gathered to enjoy refreshments, which was a great opportunity to discuss with the various partners and to start building their networks.

The first round of pitches will begin on October 14 and 15. The entire ecosystem is invited to attend the finals and awards ceremony on December 10.
