The “2021: Balancing rebound and protection” lecture – part of the Economy Evenings

On The January 21, 2021

The Economy Days, led by the Foundation for the Université de Lyon, is organizing an Economy Evening based on the theme “2021: Balancing rebound and protection”, in partnership with the BRED and the French Association of Economic Science.

Saving lives while avoiding economic collapse is what we call a “whatever it takes” process. 2021 will see us entering new phase in which we will have to reconcile measures that allow for a sustainable economic rebound while protecting the most vulnerable.

How can we overcome this challenge?

Should we adopt selective measures? And if so, at what level? Do we have a clear picture of the state of the economy in these times of great uncertainty, not only in terms of the pandemic, but also for companies and households? What should the local authorities be doing? What can be done on a European scale? How can we correct the inequalities that have been created?

All of these questions will be covered during the lecture, which will be broadcast live on the Economy Days website on Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Speakers:

  • Agnès Bénassy-Quéré, Chief Economist of the General Directorate of the French Treasury;

  • Xavier Ragot, Director of Research at the CNRS, Professor of Economics at Sciences Po and President of the French Observatory of Economic Conjunctures.
