The Economy Days are back in Lyon from November 5 to 7, 2019

The Foundation for the Université de Lyon is organizing the twelfth Economy Days on November 5, 6 and 7, in collaboration with the ENS de Lyon. This event is entirely free and accessible to all. Registration is mandatory.

The main theme of the event is “The environment, digital technology, society… a decade of dangers”, and the program has been built around current emergencies and crises.The 2019 Economy Days will address energy transition, social dialogue, digital transformation, and will question liberalism and even democracy, alongside world-renowned economists and powerful public speakers, including Joseph Stiglitz and Dani Rodrik.The 2019 Economy Days will examine the fast-paced development of digital technology, the transition from a production economy to a consuming economy, and the threats to our democracy, which loom just as large as those to our environment.

Joseph Stiglitz & Dani Rodrik, honorary doctors

Joseph Stiglitz, economist, professor of economics at Columbia University and winner of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the ENS de Lyon on November 5, during the Economy Days. To mark the occasion, he will hold a lecture entitled “Beyond Neoliberalism: The need for a new paradigm.”He will also give a lecture on November 6, as part of the student Economy Days, entitled “New Areas of Research”.

Dani Rodrik is the Ford Foundation Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He will be awarded a doctorate honoris causa by the Université de Lyon, during his conference « Dani Rodrik revisits economics » on November 6, 2019.

The Students Economy Days

On November 6, the ENS de Lyon is hosting a special “Meeting the great economists of tomorrow” workshop to encourage discussions between students and young economists.The 2019 student Economy Days are supported by IDEXLYON for their contributions to “Spreading Economic Culture” and “Developing the Position of French-speaking countries”.
