The Innovation Pre-Factory participates in the International Design Biennial in Saint-Étienne

For the eleventh International Design Biennial, the Innovation Pre-Factory is holding a number of free events for professors and staff of the Université de Lyon, which are also open to companies, local and regional institutions and the general public.

The eleventh International Design Biennial will be held in Saint-Étienne from March 21 to April 22, 2019. Exhibitions, lectures and forums will be organized throughout the city, surrounding the theme “Creating common ground”.

This rallying theme is perfectly aligned with the purpose of the Université de Lyon’s Innovation Factory, which is to strengthen relationships between academic and socio-economic players surrounding innovation.

The Innovation Pre-Factory is located in the Manufacture neighborhood in Saint-Étienne, near the Cité du Design, and it will organize and host a number of free events for the Biennial, for professors and staff of the Université de Lyon, as well as to companies, local and regional institutions and the general public.

OVERVIEW OF WORKSHOP PROGRAM 

• Tuesday, March 26, starting at 2 PM: “Connected Objects with Arduino” workshop

This workshop is open to all, providing an introduction to programming and electronics, teaching participants how to build connected objects with the Arduino software.

• Wednesday, March 27, from 6 to 8 PM: Lecture: “Fablabs and makers: where society builds itself”

This series of lectures presented by Marie-Christine Bureau, Isabelle Berrebi-Hoffmann and Michel Lallement, will explore “the origins of the movement, with deep roots that far predate the digital age, as well as its ability to test the foundations of our institutions and its ability to transform society”.
It is being co-organized by the Université de Lyon’s Innovation Factory and the Université Jean Monnet’s Work Institute. It will be held in amphitheater E01 on the Tréfilerie campus, and it is free and open to everyone.

• Thursday, March 28, from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 12 PM to 2 PM: Playful discovery of the Fablab

Professors, researchers and other staff of the Université de Lyon’s member institutions are invited to discover the Pre-Factory of Innovation's fablab through three hands-on activities: an escape game designed for the facilities, a workshop based on video game consoles with Gamebuino and an introductory connected objects programming workshop with Arduino.

• Thursday, March 28, from 2 to 5 PM: “How can the fablab work together with higher education?” workshop

This workshop is an opportunity to talk to fabmanagers, professors and students about teaching experiences within fablabs.

• Friday, March 29, from 9 AM to 12 PM: “Creativity as a management tool” workshop

The Innovation Factory team is offering hands-on creativity method workshops every Friday morning for companies and teachers. This first workshop in the series is based on a Gamebuino game, and an escape game, which aim to give a fresh take on creativity.

• Saturday, March 30, from 2 to 5 PM: Gamebuino workshop

This introductory workshop talks about programming and coding through building a video game in the fablab.

• From April 1 to 4: Testing innovative products with regional companies

The general public is being invited to test new products that are not yet on the market in a Living Lab experience.

• Thursday, April 4, from 5 to 8 PM: Sewing class

OpenFactory, the organization that manages the Pre-Factory of Innovation's fablab in Saint-Étienne, is holding sewing classes at different skill levels. These classes are open to the public, and culminate with learning to use a digital embroiderer.

• Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6: Entrepreneur’s marketplace

The entrepreneurs being supported by Beelys, the student entrepreneurship department, are giving visitors a chance to discover and try their services and products for two days. The event is open to the public, and no registration is required.

• From April 8 to 14: Exhibition of projects led by students partnering with companies

The work created by the winners of the Industry of the Future contest held by the metropolitan economic cooperation group, the ESDL project led by the materials library, and the results of the Innovation through materials workshop led by the ESADSE and ENISE will be displayed for the general public in this exhibition.

• From April 15 to 22: Exhibition about the Université de Lyon’s Innovation Factory program and premises

This exhibition presents the premises and future premises of the Innovation Factory in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, which aim to strengthen the relationships between the academic and socio-economic worlds.
