Launch of the 2019 Medicine and Humanities Summer School in Shanghai

From July 1, 2019 to July 12, 2019

From July 1 to July 12, the Université de Lyon is taking part in the medicine and humanities summer school. It is being held in Shanghai in collaboration with the University of Ottawa, the faculty of medicine at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is focusing on “Integrated medicine: the art of combining Western and traditional Chinese medicine” this year.

The 2019 edition of this ten-day excellence program is being held in Shanghai by the faculty of medicine at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The theme of this program is “Integrated medicine: the art of combining Western and traditional Chinese medicine”.

This summer school is an opportunity for some forty students from the four partner institutions to improve their understanding of medical humanities and to identify resources from different disciplines and cultural areas, to enable them to develop critical, relational, communication skills, as well as their ability to interact and share ideas in an intercultural situation.

The Université de Lyon’s delegation consists of twelve students and two teachers from the faculty of medicine Université Lyon Est, the faculties of medicine and maieutics Lyon Sud of the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the faculty of medicine at the Université Jean Monnet.

This summer school is part of a tripartite collaboration on teaching the humanities in medicine, which was the subject of an agreement signed in 2016. It brings together the partners of the Université de Lyon’s International Alliance: the University of Ottawa in Canada, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

As a reminder, the 2018 “In Every Sense” program took place at the Lyon Saint-Étienne site, highlighting the importance of the five senses (smell, touch, sight, hearing and taste) in medicine.
