On The December 18, 2019

Within its outreach and internationalization policy, the Université de Lyon and its member institutions carried out different activities in 2019 in the United States, mainly in the State of Pennsylvania, with the support of the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

A variety of exploratory missions aiming at promoting and strengthening cooperation between the Université de Lyon and Pennsylvania were organized by its member institutions: Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Université Lumière Lyon 2, ENS de Lyon and INSA Lyon. The objective consisted in networking with their counterparts in order to strengthen research and training programs with Pennsylvania State universities including: Penn State, University of Pittsburg, University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University, Drexel University and Villanova University.

These missions contributed to the visibility of the Lyon Saint-Étienne site by increasing its attractiveness through exchanges of students, teacher and researchers, in particular for UCBL1 and ENS. The INSA mission helped to strengthen its scientific relationships with the universities of Pittsburg, Lehigh, Drexel and Penn State. Finally, the Université Lumière Lyon 2 took this opportunity not only to strengthen its existing cooperation but also to sign a lecturer exchange agreement with Penn State.

The actions carried out confirmed the place of the Lyon Saint-Étienne site in Pennsylvania, and more generally in the United States. A further step will consist in turning towards California in 2020, with the support of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
