The Université de Lyon welcomes a delegation from the Université de Sherbrooke
On The June 7, 2022
On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, the Université de Lyon welcomed a delegation from the Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec), in order to reaffirm the links between the two institutions and to strengthen existing collaborations, particularly in the fields of research and innovation. This is the first time that these two universities have met since the beginning of the health crisis, a little over two years ago.
As a partner of the Université de Lyon, through its International Alliance, the Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) was eager to reconnect with key players in Lyon and Saint-Étienne after the health crisis, and to take stock of the progress made over the past five years and to discuss the opportunities for the next three years.
The outcome of these multiple cooperative ventures should strengthen the academic and scientific network of both universities, not only in scientific fields – particularly health, quantum physics, digital technologies/micro-electronics, engineering, energy innovation and sustainable development, and science and society – but also in terms of innovation, which is what makes the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site so attractive.
The UdeS is also planning to open an office in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which will enable it to promote joint training programs and select French Master’s degree students to develop research collaborations in the form of a thesis co-directorship/co-supervision. Discussions are currently underway with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council on this subject.
On the Quebec side, the delegation included Mr. Pierre Cossette, President; Ms. Christine Hudon, Vice-President, in charge of Studies and International Relations; Ms. Pascale Lafrance, Director General, USherbrooke International; and Mr. Vincent Aimez, Vice-President, in charge of Development and Partnerships. They were welcomed by Mr. Frank Debouck, President of the Université de Lyon, as well as representatives from the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Université Lumière Lyon 2, the INSA Lyon, the École Centrale de Lyon and the SATT PULSALYS.
On this occasion, the delegation was also welcomed at the Innovation Pre-Factory, on the LyonTech-la Doua campus, for a site visit and a presentation of the project.

The International Alliance in Canada
Members of the Université de Lyon have established a number of partnerships in Canada, one of the strategic locations of the International Alliance. The Université de Lyon has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with three Canadian partners: the University of Ottawa, the Université de Sherbrooke and the Université de Montréal. These cooperative projects cover all areas of knowledge and education, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary studies and technological innovation. This French-Canadian partnership has been solidified with the creation of a joint UdL-CNRS branch in January 2019. This branch is a strategic tool that is unprecedented in the world of French research and has helped strengthen the Université de Lyon's position in Canada.
