Arqus European University Alliance

To establish its European policy, the Université de Lyon has joined the “Arqus European University Alliance” project, which includes the University of Granada (Spain), the consortium leader, the University of Bergen (Norway), the University of Graz (Austria), the Leipzig University (Germany), the University of Padua (Italy) and the Vilnius University (Lithuania).

Within the Lyon Saint-Étienne site, the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and the Université Jean Monnet are all involved in the Arqus project, under the shared banner "Université de Lyon".

By 2025, the project aims to establish strengthened European cooperative projects in a wide variety of disciplines and cross-disciplines. This includes designing new curricula for European education, establishing joint diplomas, working together to develop teaching methods, transforming campuses, encouraging student entrepreneurship, supporting researchers’ careers, and much more. These issues are a common concern of all universities in the alliance and ought to be addressed as part of this strengthened cooperation.

Arqus aims to:

Propose a new model of collaboration between European universities by focusing on the mobility of the academic community, both face-to-face and online,
Involve all university stakeholders and focus on individual and personal development, all while promoting multilingualism,
Develop innovative inter-university training programs, including double diplomas, and bring research to life by sharing resources and facilities,
Strengthen university entrepreneurship and socio-economic links,
Encourage the public to get involved in the project.

The Université de Lyon, with its strong entrepreneurial tradition, is leading the “Entrepreneurial University and Regional Commitment” initiative (AL5).
