[COURSE] Launch of a new session of the Research Ethics MOOC

On The April 5, 2023

The Université de Lyon is launching a new session of its Ethics MOOC. Enrollment is open via the FUN-MOOC platform until June 16, 2023.

Since May 2015, all PhD students are required to include scientific integrity and research ethics in their studies. The MOOC program is provided by the Université de Lyon and focuses on research ethics. It is mainly intended for PhD students, but is also of interest to any researchers and members of the general public who seek to gain a better understanding of the current transformations and implications of research, and the new ethical issues they raise.

Science is a central value of our democratic societies, which promote the desire for knowledge of the world and of humankind. Nevertheless, it can sometimes be frightening with the rapid pace of innovation and emergence of new technological and scientific achievements. Moreover, the scale of the resources mobilized, a context of international competition and conflicts of interest between the private and the common good also give rise to a crisis of confidence.

This course lasts five weeks, with an additional week of introduction beforehand. Each weekly module will focus on a series of brief interviews with researchers to introduce important concepts and the types of reasoning that are developed. These videos, lasting between 6 and 10 minutes, will be accompanied by a summary of the fundamental notions and concepts covered. At the end of each week, you can show what you have learned through a multiple-choice test. You can also interact with the learning community and teachers on the forum and you will have access to in-depth educational resources.
