“Future transport and mobility: technical progress in the face of ecological constraints” lecture

On The February 13, 2020

The Université de Lyon’s Association des Amis is organizing a lecture on February 13, 2020 entitled “Future transport and mobility: technical progress in the face of ecological constraints”. The 2019 Grand Université de Lyon prizes will be awarded during this event.

In order to fully understand future mobility, we need to look beyond technical progress and new transport services. These are just a small part of the mobility equation. Over the last few decades, high-speed travel speed has become more and more accessible thanks to its lower relative prices. This movement has its limitations, however; higher speeds means traveling longer distances, which in turn results in consuming more space and energy.

When it comes to planning for the future of mobility, we should not only focus on technical developments and the digital revolution, but also on our limited resources: time and money for individuals, and space and money for the community.
