Lyon Urban School is organizing an international seminar focusing on environmental vulnerability and public decision-making in a post-disaster context. The seminar will be held from October 6 to 8 in Lyon and Tokyo, as part of the 2022 "Rentrée Anthropocène" event.

Today, humanity is increasingly exposed to major natural hazards (floods, soil erosion, large fires, earthquakes, tidal waves, tsunamis, etc.). These events have significant effects on human infrastructure, whether industrial, social or personal.

We therefore need to understand how these risks are perceived by the population, as well as how they influence individual and collective attitudes, in order to identify how citizens and civil society can influence and act on public decisions.

This seminar is part of the work program of the Joint Research Chair on the Urban Anthropogenic Era of the University of Ottawa and the Université de Lyon, led by Vincent Mirza and Michel Lussault. The aim is to help create a network of key players and researchers in the three geographical areas concerned (Japan, Canada and France), in order to conduct a critical analysis of the impacts of major hazards and to discuss public policies in a post-disaster context.

The seminar is part of the 2022 Anthropocene Back-to-School Event (Rentrée Anthropocène 2022), which will run from October 7 to 17 as part of this year’s Science Fair.
