The Université de Lyon's regional finals of the international Francophone “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” competition will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Watch it live on the UdL website or Facebook page at 6 PM.

My Thesis in 180 Seconds invites PhD students to present their research topic in simple terms to a jury and diverse non-specialist audience. Thirteen PhD students from the Lyon Saint-Étienne university sites will present their research projects in three minutes in a clear and concise, yet convincing manner.

A jury made up of researchers, journalists and representatives from the socio-economic sector will then award three prizes. You will also have the opportunity to award the Internet users’ prize!

The Université de Lyon winners of the first and second jury prize will go on to compete in the national stage of the competition.

  • Maude Gallimard, Measuring the carbon footprint of an academic research project
  • Laurence Have, Body representation disorders: from motor experience to perception
  • Marylou Mantel, Inter-individual differences in sense of smell, an interdisciplinary approach
  • Maxime Rey, The circum-galactic medium: understanding the interactions between galaxies and the intergalactic medium using numerical simulations
  • Sihem Sayah, Characterizing point defects in high-performance mirrors for gravitational wave detectors
  • Eric Sergent, Cemeteries and burials in France, from 1848-1914. Funerary art with examples from Paris, Lyon and Dijon
  • Thibaut Sohier, Developing a structure to protect against physical attacks on the back side of secure chips
