Publication of the tenth survey on the professional future of doctors from the Université de Lyon

A total of 512 doctors, who graduated from the Lyon Saint-Étienne site in 2018, took part in this tenth survey conducted by the Observatory for Doctors Entering Employment (OIPD).

Under the aegis of the Université de Lyon, the OIPD has published, for the end of 2022, its tenth survey concerning the professional integration of its doctoral graduates.

This report looks at the professional situation of its 2018 graduates, three years after obtaining their PhD. The study establishes a general profile of these doctors and their situation at December 1st, 2019 and at December 1st, 2021. It takes into account three disciplinary fields: exact sciences (Exact Sci.), life sciences (Life Sci.), humanities and social sciences (Humanit. and Soc.).

Some key figures:

  • 89% of PhD students who defended their thesis in 2018 had found work by December 1st, 2021, with 40% in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 55% under permanent contract and 18% as post-doctoral students.
  • 48% among them work in higher and secondary education and 35% are corporate engineers and technical managers.
  • 27% among them found their jobs through their professional network (thesis supervisor, colleagues)
  • 82% of theses were financed, 30%* of which by businesses.
