The “À l’École de l’anthropocène” multidisciplinary festival returns for its second edition
For the second year running, the École urbaine de Lyon is organizing its major multidisciplinary event “À l’École de l’anthropocène” (At the Anthropocene School), from January 27 to February 2. This week-long festival will provide many opportunities to learn, debate and build upon ideas alongside scientists, thinkers, artists, politicians and organizations, with a variety of presentations and activities.
Events to suit all audiences
Similar to its 2019 edition, the “À l’École de d’anthropocène” festival will be divided into several activities, all of which are designed to cater for all interests: public lectures, debates, conferences, workshops, readings, performances, exhibitions, etc.
The festival will be held in three different locations:
- The Halles du Faubourg (7th district of Lyon), the École urbaine de Lyon’s iconic location situated in the heart of an abandoned industrial site;
- The Comoedia Cinema (7th district of Lyon), partner of an ambitious film program;
- And the former Perrache TCL branch (2nd district of Lyon), in close proximity to the many Lyon residents who pass through the station every day.
Topics will include:
Coexisting in the Anthropogenic Era | Population and climate change | The age of digital control | Urbanization and the changing global system | Was the invention of farming really justified? | The grounds for questioning | Is research really in touch with the real world? | Heat islands in the city | Politics and poetic expressions in Anthropogenic times | Restorative post-capitalism | What earth policies have been developed in response to the Anthropogenic Era? | Will we live in huts? | Tackling environmental degradation | How to read an IPCC report | Eco-feminism | Rethinking care and hospital living |

À l’École de l’Anthropocène” is an excellent opportunity for us to offer a unique program, outside the university walls, allowing us to reach out to a much larger audience. Although we cannot provide definitive answers to the questions and uncertainties of today’s world, we want to provide participants with the opportunity to learn, explore ideas, harness energy and look towards the future, while trying to avoid simplistic approaches. In doing so, we undertake to “set an example”, from a strong adult education institution perspective, where high-quality science is brought together with a variety of audiences, who in turn make their own contributions and adopt their own approaches.
Michel Lussault, geographer and director of the École urbaine de Lyon
