On The June 9, 2022

The QS World University Ranking, established by the British company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), was published on June 8. This year’s ranking includes five member institutions from the Université de Lyon.

The QS World University Ranking is one of the three most reputable university rankings, alongside the Times Higher Education Ranking and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (ARWU) Ranking. It lists more than 1,500 universities and higher education institutions from all over the world according to their reputation and performance in teaching and research.

The six key ranking indicators are: Academic Reputation (based on a survey completed by researchers), Employer Reputation (based on a survey completed by employers), Faculty:Student Ratio, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio and Citations per Faculty.

The five member institutions of the Université de Lyon ComUE listed in the 2023 ranking are:

  • ENS de Lyon | Ranked 111th, moving up 19 places in the ranking
  • INSA Lyon | Ranked 458th, moving up 73 places in the rankings
  • Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 | Moved up one increment in the ranking*
  • Université Lumière Lyon 2Moved up one increment in the ranking*
  • Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 | Moved down one increment in the ranking

* From the 500th position onwards, institutions are grouped in increments of 10, 50, 100 or 200, depending on their position in the ranking and the year of the ranking.

The ENS de Lyon and the INSA Lyon are also ranked fifth and twelfth in the France University Ranking 2023.

This new ranking, which follows the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 (published in April), the CWUR 2022 ranking (also published in April) and the THE Impact 2022 ranking (published in May), is yet another testament to the exceptional training and research potential of the Lyon and Saint-Étienne sites.

We would like to congratulate our institutions on their success!
