Four engineering schools from the Lyon-Saint-Étienne site sign an agreement to strengthen their partnership

On The September 29, 2022

On September 29, 2022, The ENTPE, the École Centrale de Lyon, INSA Lyon and École des Mines de Saint-Étienne signed the 4EI student mobility agreement, which aims to develop a common engineering project on the Lyon Saint-Étienne site, and to offer more specialization options to seniors through inter-institution mobility. The signature took place in the presence of the Directors of the institutions at the Université de Lyon.

An exchange program for students was formalized upon signature of an agreement, on Thursday, September 29, 2022, by Cécile Delolme, Jacques Fayolle, Frédéric Fotiadu and Pascal Ray, Directors of the four schools, in the presence of Frank Debouck, President of the Université de Lyon. This agreement is the first of its kind in France among schools from a same site and under the aegis of three different ministries (Ministry of Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Ecological Transition).

It will enable students from these four schools to opt for mobility within one of the partner schools during their final year, and thereby to expand their skill set. This program showcases the complementarity, wealth and diversity of the courses, and strengthens the selection of multi-skills training on offer, which is particularly sought after by companies.

A trial implementation was launched in September 2022 and full deployment of this new program will be rolled out in September 2023. For this first year, around twenty students will participate, as each school is able to accommodate 5 new students per year.

The agreement signed between the four engineering schools (ECL, EMSE, INSA, ENTPE), on the possibilities for academic exchange, demonstrates the benefits that can be drawn from coordinating several institutions at the same site and having a common project. This agreement is in line with the ComUE’s current dynamic, that of a group of institutions which discuss, interact and create projects together. It was only natural that the ComUE was able to welcome the heads of the institutions for this signature, a symbol of their cooperation and of the resourcefulness of the site.

Several projects underway

This student mobility agreement is one of the elements of the strengthened partnership between the four schools. Other substantial achievements are already apparent:
  • The response, on September 15th, to the call for projects “Accelerating the development strategies of higher education and research institutions” to develop training throughout life and European projects, in which the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne and the CNRS are also taking part;
  • The response to the 3rd wave of the call for projects “Excellence in all its forms” planned for January 12, 2023, which aims to support higher education and research institutions with ambitious transformation projects at site level, in the implementation of their own strategy, based on the territorial context and their specific needs;
  • Events organized with the participation of the academic community and economic stakeholders, surrounding the sustainable digital society, carbon-free industry & society and the circular economy.
