Khaled Bouabdallah visits China to celebrate 30 years of the Lyon-Canton twinning program

An important official delegation from Lyon visited China from May 2 to 9. The mission, led by the President of the Lyon Metropolis, David Kimelfeld, and the Mayor of Lyon, Georges Képénékian, to mark the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Lyon and Guangzhou (Canton), aimed to promote our city's sectors of excellence, its competitiveness clusters, companies and higher education institutions.

Strengthening ties and cooperation between the universities to mark 30 years of the Lyon-Canton twinning program was the aim of this official visit, which was punctuated by a visit to Tongji University, the Asia Europe Business School campus and Mérieux University.

  • Tongji University:
    The delegation was received by Tongji University in Shanghai and welcomed by its Vice-President, Jiang Bo. The delegation, joined by Khaled Bouabdallah, the President of the Université de Lyon, and Éric Maurincomme, Director of INSA Lyon, was able to discover the "When Lyon met China" exhibition organized by the New Franco-Chinese Institute in Lyon.
  • The new Asia Europe Business School campus:
    emlyon business school, which has had a campus in China since 1997, opened its Asia Europe Business School (AEBS) campus in the heart of Shanghai in 2017. The synergies between this institution and emlyon business school campuses in Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Paris and Casablanca have enabled the development of learning pathways across three continents. As a reminder, the Lyon Campus is currently hosting 320 Chinese students.
  • The Shanghai bioMérieux campus:
    Finally, the delegation visited the Shanghai bioMérieux campus, one of the metropolitan area's emblems of excellence in life sciences, to sign a cooperation agreement between the Hospices civils de Lyon and the Shanghai Health Authorities.
