The Université de Lyon and Sherbrooke University renew their strategic partnership

On The December 10, 2020

On Thursday, November 26, the Université de Lyon and Sherbrooke University renewed their strategic partnership agreement that began in 2014 as part of the development of the International Alliance*. The ceremony was held online due to the current epidemic.

Sherbrooke University, a long-standing partner of the Université de Lyon

Identified as the leading innovation area in Quebec, Sherbrooke University was eager to strengthen its cooperation with the Lyon Saint-Étienne institutions and, more generally, with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

In addition, partnerships have been significantly expanded in Canada, thanks to the establishment of the joint CNRS-Université de Lyon office in January 2019, which is part of the CNRS North America Office in Washington, D.C.

Structural initiatives for training, research and entrepreneurship

Since 2014, the two universities have been working to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of training, research and student entrepreneurship.

Thanks to the STARMAC program, funded as part of the IDEXLYON, Master’s students from Lyon and Saint-Étienne have been able to take part in exchange programs at Sherbrooke University and, as a result, become more involved in the areas of research shared by these two partners.

Four scientific mobility projects involving Sherbrooke University are ongoing. These projects are supported as part of the “Joint Research Chairs” call for applications and encourage the structuring of existing research collaborations in the fields of engineering sciences, law and health.

The LN2 International joint research units (Unité Mixte Internationale – UMI), created in 2012 and renewed in 2016, as well as the establishment of the CAC International Associated Laboratory (Laboratoire International Associé – LIA) in 2019, demonstrate the strong scientific cooperation between the two sites.

In 2016, this collaboration was consolidated by the signing of a specific scientific and technological cooperation agreement, which strengthens student entrepreneurship through exchange programs within Sherbrooke’s innovation ecosystem. This project is also supported by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
