The Université de Lyon commits to water conservation

On The September 5, 2022

On September 5, 2022, the Université de Lyon, together with twenty or so partners, the City of Lyon and the Rhône Mediterranean Corsica Water Agency, signed the metropolitan contract for water conservation.

In light of recent water shortages, this agreement between the City of Lyon and the Water Agency places a great deal of importance on:

  1. Reducing the degradation of aquatic environments and wetlands
  2. Preserving the quality and quantity of this precious resource
  3. Making the city more water-permeable
  4. Raising awareness and educating people on the importance of conserving water

By signing this new citywide plan, the Université de Lyon and its institutions are committed to integrating the objective of reducing soil sealing (conserving green areas and making use of already built-up areas) in all future projects.

Developing alternative solutions for infiltrating rainwater into the city soil and moving away from traditional fully pipe-based solutions are just some of the actions and research that Lyon’s higher education institutions will be pursuing as part of this initiative.
