The statutes of the University of Lyon define its governance, its different bodies and their composition and responsibilities.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is made up of 41 members representing the member and associate institutions, staff and students from these institutions and qualified external experts. The Board of Directors determines the University of Lyon’s general policies as well as its strategic decisions and general direction.
Executive Board
The Executive Board is made up of representatives from the member institutions and two representatives from the partner institutions of the University of Lyon. It assists the presidency in carrying out its duties and is involved in preparing the work and implementing the decisions of the Board of Directors.
Academic College
The Academic College is made up of four commissions:
- The Research commission,
- The Education commission,
- The Student Life commission,
- The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Commission.
It is the University of Lyon’s coordinating body responsible for overseeing the academic programs, research and transfer strategy, and student life. The commissions bring together the vice-presidents and relevant directors from member institutions, representatives from other institutions, and local stakeholders who may be invited.
The Doctoral College, which coordinates the 18 doctoral schools on the site, brings together the vice-presidents for research from the 12 institutions awarding doctoral degrees and the directors of the doctoral schools.
The President and Vice-Presidents
The President of the University of Lyon is elected by an absolute majority of the members of the Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing the institution.
Nathalie Dompnier, a professor of political science, was elected President on June 18, 2024, for a four-year term.
On the recommendation of the President, and following a favorable opinion from the Executive Board, the Board of Directors approves the list of Vice-Presidents.
The Board of Directors also elects a student vice-president from among the student representatives on the Board of Directors.
