Publication of a guide for best practices from eight higher education institutions to decarbonize their activity

On The November 21, 2022

The suggested actions in this document, published in November 2022, are the result of the collective work of eight institutions in the Lyon-Saint-Étienne site, which have been trained in climate issues, carried out their carbon footprint assessment and initiated their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy.

This guide provides an assessment of this first important step and presents the results of the various participating institutions: the Crous de Lyon, the École nationale d'ingénieurs de Saint-Étienne (ENISE), the École normale supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon), the École Nationale des Travaux Publics de l'Etat (ENTPE), the Université de Lyon (UdL), the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne and VetAgro Sup.

These institutions continue to develop and update their CSR approach to go beyond this initial dimension and to consider a strategy that encompasses the full range of the institutions’ activities. Indeed, higher education is a key sector for training future generations to address the major issues of tomorrow, particularly of an ecologic nature, and preparing them to tackle the challenges they will face.

Given the diversity of issues and the richness of the world of higher education and research, these proposals do not represent an instruction manual, nor the vision of each institution. They are intended to provide food for thought within the higher education community and other institutions.

This “climate promotion”, organized on the initiative of WeCount, was carried out in cooperation with a dozen experts in the field of higher education.
