Careers and employment

Monitoring the progress of PhDs and supporting doctors entering employment are two of the Université de Lyon's most important tasks.

That's why, throughout the year, our young doctors and PhD students can benefit from special innovative schemes helping them to enter the job market.

The Université de Lyon's Doctoriales

The Université de Lyon's Doctoriales aim to bring PhD students and local socio-economic organizations together.

Organized across the Lyon Saint-Étienne site, the Doctoriales offer hands-on training programs where multidisciplinary PhD teams can take a fresh look at the challenges faced by organizations (companies, authorities, associations, etc.). These can be technological, strategic, organizational, marketing, usage, development and international challenges, etc.

The Innovation Academy

This new hands-on training program aims to help PhD students transform their innovative ideas into projects. The training program has been co-developed by the Université de Lyon and Pulsalys, Lyon Saint-Étienne's Technology Transfer Acceleration Company (SATT).

Over three months, participants will work as part of multidisciplinary teams (max. four people) on projects to develop their innovative ideas, such as a new product or service or a social and environmental innovation project. A final challenge will take place on April 24, 2018, to recognize the best projects.

Recruitment

More than 1,000 doctors graduate from the Université de Lyon each year, from all scientific fields. Thanks to their training through research and doctoral programs provided by the Université de Lyon, these young doctors are able to develop their scientific and interdisciplinary skills throughout their PhD. This incredible pool of talent is then ready to transfer its skills to the workplace to benefit future employers.

The Université de Lyon supports companies looking for PhD graduates by sharing their announcements with specific profiles throughout the year. Along with several partners, it also organizes a recruitment event for doctors each year: les Rendez-vous de l'emploi ("Employment Meetings").

From your PhD to employment

Since the start of the 2017 academic year, the Université de Lyon and Pôle Emploi, through the support of the Objectif Pour L'Emploi association, have been able to provide a new scheme, "Du doctorat a l'emploi" ("From you PhD to employment"), which offers customized support for graduates entering employment.

The six-month program is driven by experts and provides specially adapted support aimed at helping doctors who have been looking for employment for more than six months to find sustainable employment outside of academia. The scheme is a collective campaign led by professional instructors who provide customized supported adapted to the profile of each individual with the help of a referral system.

Doc'Talks & Digi-Doc'Talks

Since 2019, the Université de Lyon has been organizing Doc'Talks, an afterwork that brings together doctoral students and doctors in a friendly environment to give feedback on their experience. It is an opportunity for doctoral students to discover different post-thesis paths, to learn more about the integration of doctors in the business world and to have an overview of the professional development prospects that are offer to them by developing their network.

At the start of the 2020 academic year, two Digi-Doc'Talks sessions (digital format of the Doc'Talks set up following the confinement) will be offered each month, in order to pursue these meetings between doctors and doctoral students.

And for doctoral students who would not be able to follow or attend the sessions, recorded podcasts from Digi-Doc’Talks are now available online.
