About Research

The Université de Lyon comprises a large number of internationally renowned laboratories with major scientific equipment, some of which are unique in Europe. This research potential rests on its strong partnerships with major national research institutions, on an incredible industrial potential and the presence of large international companies.

As the second largest scientific site in France with 6,800 researchers, the Université de Lyon leads renowned fundamental research and develops strategic research in answer to society's greatest challenges. This research is structured around three large areas: biology, health and society, science and engineering, and humanities and urban planning

As a stakeholder in the academic world of the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the Université de Lyon places a strong emphasis on innovation and transferring its findings to industry through its technology transfer acceleration company 'PULSALYS'.

The need for advice on protocols for non-interventional research involving human subjects is becoming increasingly urgent. In order to meet this need, the UdL Research Ethics Committee was launched in 2020. Composed of 16 members, it intends to provide an advisory opinion on research protocols (both for basic and applied research) to researchers and research professors at the Université de Lyon.
