[OUR CONSORTIUM] ENSAL becomes a member institution of the Université de Lyon

On The June 26, 2025

The Université de Lyon Board of Directors approved ENSAL as a member institution on June 24, 2025.

ENSAL, which was previously an associate institution, is now the 11th member institution of the Université de Lyon.

The National School of Architecture in Lyon (ENSAL - École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Lyon) is a public administrative institution under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

The school trains architects, architectural engineers, engineer-architects and urban planner architects. It awards national diplomas in architecture at Bachelor's, Master’s and PhD levels, as well as project management certification, under its own name. ENSAL boasts a rich multidisciplinary culture in architecture, urban and landscape research.

This architecture school is spread over different campuses: the Vaulx-en-Velin campus near Lyon, shared with ENTPE and the LyonTech-la Doua campus in Villeurbanne.

The strength of the Lyon Saint-Etienne site lies in the diversity and richness of its institutions and in their ability to pool their strengths for the benefit of the entire community. The partnerships formed are, in turn, a major asset for everyone involved in the site. The fact that ENSAL is now a member of the Université de Lyon is both the logical next step in a series of existing partnerships, and a testament to the positive momentum at work on the university site. The contribution of ENSAL to the site’s strategic projects will be essential to meet the challenges now facing the higher education and research sector.

Nathalie Dompnier, President of the Université de Lyon

ENSAL, a Université de Lyon associate since 2015, and now a full member, wishes to contribute fully to the scientific strategy of the Lyon Saint-Étienne site and the collective momentum by drawing on its strengths in terms of teaching and research, as well as the partnerships already formed with the site’s institutions. The site and ENSAL comply with the highest international standards in terms of architecture teaching and research.

Sophie Chabot, Director of ENSAL
