[PUBLIC EVENT] 2024 Science Fair in the city of Lyon and the Rhône department
From October 4, 2024 to October 14, 2024
Every year, throughout France, the Science Fair invites the general public to have fun with science, to discover new technologies and the latest developments. The scientific community has come together to offer a range of activities, exhibitions, lectures, tours, and much more.
From October 4 to 14, 2024, dive into an "Ocean of Knowledge"! Come and enjoy around 300 free and fun activities open to everyone in Lyon and the Rhône region. Stroll through the departement’s 26 towns and cities and meet the men and women who are involved in science, or at least able to explain it!
A nationwide theme: "Ocean of Knowledge"
This year, the national theme of the Science Fair invites you to set sail!
A rich theme which is at the heart of the current concerns of our society, from the sharing of knowledge to the political commitments of citizens in the service of the protection of the sea and the conservation of our maritime heritage. Heritage and common good, the ocean is indeed home to extraordinary biodiversity and represents an immense reservoir of still unexplored wealth. Covering 70% of the planet's surface, it contains 97% of the water on Earth.
The ocean is a complex environment which mobilizes numerous fields of research, both from fundamental sciences (life sciences, physics-chemistry, geology, etc.) and applied sciences (renewable energies, marine biotechnology, aquaculture , natural risk management, etc.) and human and social sciences (history, economics, geopolitics).
In the Rhône department, the ocean seems very far away. But the protection and study of the ocean is not just a question of the coastline. Rivers converge towards the sea, and everything that happens from the source to the ocean impacts water quality, economic and leisure activity and even life in marine environments. Beyond the maritime, the theme “Ocean of Knowledge” is an invitation to expand the horizon of our scientific knowledge and experience the extent of all knowledge.
