Support for thematic schools

Through the IDEXLYON project, the Université de Lyon is supporting far-reaching international thematic schools in order to enhance the site's international outreach by promoting and developing its scientific research.

  1. OBJECTIVE
To support thematic schools with a dual objective of:
• disseminating the latest scientific knowledge to audiences with an interest in a particular scientific theme or a clearly defined methodological approach;
• strengthening the international reputation of the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site and its research units.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for IDEXLYON support, the thematic school must:
• pursue a clear training objective;
• be managed by a member of the IDEXLYON consortium;
• involve at least 25 participants (in addition to guest speakers);
• be held over at least three days (a minimum of 15 hours of teaching time for the participants);
• take place on the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site or on another attractive site in France
• be organized or co-organized by research professors or researchers from the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site.


Please note: the symposium must open 3 to 18 months after submission of the support application. Since the end of eligibility date for the IDEXLYON project is December 31, 2021, the deadline for submitting applications has been set for October 30, 2021. No file received after this date can be investigated.


CRITERIA FOR ALLOCATING THE SUPPORT

The main assessment criteria for the support applications are as follows:
• international outreach (in terms of the guest speakers and participants);
• links to the IDEXLYON themes, LabEx, Graduate Schools of Research (Ecoles Universitaires de Recherche) or Convergence Institutes;
• the proportion of undergraduates and PhD students among the participants (a minimum of 50% is desirable).
The following may also be taken into account when awarding the support:
• programs containing a range of workshops or informal discussions between participants and guest speakers, in addition to lectures;
• the possibility of awarding ECTS credits to participants;
• the availability of learning material online.

HOW TO APPLY AND INSTRUCTIONS

The application must contain the following:
• the "Support for Symposiums" application form, available to download from this page;
• a program or preliminary program for the event (containing at least the format of the event, the number of invited speakers and their names).

Applications will be subject to validation by the EXCOM (IDEXLYON's Executive Committee) on the basis of the IDEXLYON Academic Group's opinion at the request of the IDEXLYON Director.
