Nightline Lyon and its listening service

Since 2016, the Nightline France organization has been working to improve the mental health of students. In 2020, its Lyon branch began offering a night-time listening service (by phone or online chat) to all students in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, regardless of their field of study.

This listening service is open from 9:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with volunteers available to talk anonymously, confidentially, and without direction or judgment, with anyone who feels the need to talk about any topic (loneliness, study-related stress, relationship issues, anxiety, or even just the latest Discovery series).

Would you like to get involved this year?

To become a volunteer, all you need is a kind heart and the willingness to give your time to listen to others. By embarking on this rewarding adventure, students will have the opportunity to connect with peers from a wide variety of backgrounds, learn about teamwork, and work with the organization’s staff on professional mental health prevention projects outside of their academic environment.
 

In practice

• Volunteers will answer phones and chat online three nights a month at the Nightline Lyon center.
• At the end of each shift, the organization arranges for volunteers to be driven home safely and free of charge.
• For each new volunteer, the organization provides initial training (over two weekends) in active listening.
• The next training sessions in Lyon are scheduled for November 4-5 and November 11-12.
• Nightline Lyon is also looking for English-speaking volunteers.
