[RETROSPECTIVE] Over 200 participants attend the 11th Manutech-SLEIGHT Graduate School Science Week

On The January 23, 2024

From January 8 to 12, the Manutech-SLEIGHT Graduate School held its 11th SLEIGHT Science Event at Télécom Saint-Étienne, Université Jean Monnet. It brought together over 200 participants to explore all the subjects taught at Manutech-SLEIGHT: Optics-Photonics, Machine Learning, Surface Engineering, Image Science, Artificial Intelligence and Bioengineering.

As it does every year in January, the graduate school gathered for its annual Science Week, where students had the opportunity to showcase their work. They also had the opportunity to discover the latest advances in LIBS imaging, nonlinear Raman microscopy, and free-electron laser (FEL) research. Two sessions were organized to showcase students’ work: a pitch session, where Master’s students spoke about their project or research topic, and a poster session, where PhD students, post-docs, and researchers presented the progress of their projects.

The aim of this week was to bring students and researchers together around common themes – imaging, optics, lasers and machine learning – to create a forum for exchange and to showcase the opportunities that the graduate school has to offer its members.

Highlights from SSE#11

  • A high-level scientific program encompassing all MANUTECH-SLEIGHT subjects
  • A thesis defense by Rehan Jhuboo from the Hubert Curien laboratory (Université Jean Monnet)
  • Nine students received awards for their presentations and three students were commended for their involvement in graduate school activities
  • Workshops to explore the graduate school’s three scientific departments.

The SSE#11 program committee would like to thank everyone who contributed, attended, and helped organize the event.

Join us this summer at the Université Jean Monnet for the 12th SLEIGHT Science Event, focusing on Imagery at Manutech-SLEIGHT, from July 8 to 12.
